Teachers and librarians, this book is for the new kid. You have all already met Will Kling. He's the one who just transferred from a life elsewhere with the parental hope of keeping a family problem a safe distance away. What's distinct is how the author delves inside the student's mind, exposing the dual existence between reality and involuntary flashbacks that a changed environment cannot solve. It also invites thought on how schools and friends respond to students going through the final stages of a terminally ill parent unknown to the new school. (Those who genrefy will find it fit nicely in their disability section.) Written by a film producer/screenwriter as an easy reader for upper middle school/high school students, the action sails at a quick clip. Be sure to read the engaging short story in the epilogue. Add the book to your reading list. Aim it to the new kid.
